I was recently fortunate enough to be involved in a fascinating project from the Fraser lab at Stanford, which used hybrid cells to study differences in facial morphology both on a species-wide level, and in relation to a genetic syndrome.
Hybrid cells include human and chimpanzee chromosomes, and they enable researchers to shed light on how differential gene regulation shaped human-specific traits. For more about the project I highly recommend David Gokhman's Twitter thread on the topic. In addition to the illustrations shared here, I got to make the anatomical illustrations for the original paper published in Nature.
